Biography

Croatian tenor Filip Filipović has earned wide acclaim, winning Second Prize at the Hans Gabor Belvedere International Singing Competition in Dortmund and being named Young Musician of the Year 2023 by the Zagreb Philharmonic. He is a member of the resident ensemble at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, where he has performed leading roles including Alfredo (La Traviata), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), and Ismaele (Nabucco).

The 2025/26 season marks a major milestone in his career with significant international debuts. He will appear at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège as Alfred in Die Fledermaus under Nikolas Nägele, and at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona as Edmondo in Manon Lescaut, in Àlex Ollé’s production conducted by Josep Pons. He will also return to the Teatre Principal de Palma as Duca di Mantova in Rigoletto.

At the Croatian National Theatre, Filipović will debut as Pollione in Norma, sing Walther in Tannhäuser, and reprise Ismaele in Nabucco. In concert, he will perform Mendelssohn’s Lobgesang at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla and Lucas Macías, Verdi’s Requiem in Zagreb and Rijeka with the HRT Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under Valentin Egel, and make his debut at Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música with the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid and Joanna Carneiro in Beethoven’s Mass in C major, Op. 86.

Filipović has also won First Prize at the Lav Mirski International Singing Competition in Osijek and at the Vera Kovač Vitkai International Competition in Novi Sad. He received the Ferdo Livadić Prize for Best Artistic Personality and is a laureate of the Papandopulo Young Artists Competition. In 2024, he was awarded the 37th “Ivo Vuljević” Prize by Jeunesses Musicales Croatia for Best Young Musician.

On the symphonic stage, he has collaborated with conductors including Plácido Domingo, Pier Giorgio Morandi, Ivan Repušić, Srba Dinić, and Valentin Egel, performing works such as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Missa Solemnis, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle, and Verdi’s Requiem.

His operatic repertoire includes Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto), Alfredo (La Traviata), Ismaele (Nabucco), and Ruggero (La Rondine).
