Biography

Mira Alkhovik has emerged as one of the most promising young sopranos of her generation, building a career distinguished by artistic refinement and a uniquely expressive voice. Born in Saint Petersburg, she studied violin for twelve years before beginning her vocal training at the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in her hometown.

The 2025/26 season will see her in important role debuts such as Micaëla (Carmen), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Bubikopf (Der Kaiser von Atlantis). She will also appear as Flora (La Traviata), Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro), and Amore (Orfeo ed Euridice), the latter at Ópera de Tenerife. In the symphonic repertoire, she will perform Verdi’s Requiem at the Cathedral of Palma de Mallorca with the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra.

Her operatic roles further include Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Mimì (La bohème), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Anna (Nabucco), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), and Yvette (La Rondine). Recent highlights include her participation in the 2025 Verbier Festival Academy, where she received outstanding reviews for her portrayal of Tatiana in Eugene Onegin; a performance of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra; and her performance as Micaëla in Carmen with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra during their annual open-air concert, attended by over 30,000 people.

Mira is a member of the Volksoper Wien’s young ensemble until the 25/26 season.

She has won numerous awards in prominent vocal competitions, such as the second prizes at the Tenor Viñas Competition 2024 (Spain) and the International LiedDuo Competition for Students in Groningen (Netherlands), as well as the third prize at the ARD Int. Music Competition 2024 (Germany), Grand Prize at the 8th International George Enescu Competition in 2021 (Paris). Additionally, she has been awarded at the Ningbo International Vocal Competition (China), the Jeunes Espoirs Opera Competition in Avignon (France), and the Haydn International Competition (Austria). In 2022, she won the fourth prize at the International Haydn Competition and received the Grand Prize.

Parallel to her operatic career, Mira is a distinguished chamber music performer, resulting in her debut Lied album, Falling for Love.
