Hungarian soprano Emőke Baráth has established herself as a distinctive international artist, acclaimed for her refined musicianship, stylistic versatility and compelling stage presence. Her repertoire spans the Baroque and Classical eras through to the symphonic and vocal music of the 19th and 20th centuries. She has collaborated with conductors including Iván Fischer, Emmanuelle Haïm, William Christie, Giovanni Antonini, Michele Mariotti, Marc Minkowski, Ottavio Dantone, Christophe Rousset, Philippe Jaroussky, Rinaldo Alessandrini, Kazuki Yamada, Sylvain Cambreling, Bertrand de Billy, Francesco Corti and Christina Pluhar.
The 2026/27 season reflects the breadth of her current repertoire. Baráth returns to the Hungarian State Opera as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro and also sings Countess Almaviva in the same opera in concert at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées with B’Rock Orchestra and Francesco Corti. She also makes her Ópera de Tenerife debut as Angelica in Handel’s Orlando, with Vespres d’Arnadí conducted by Dani Espasa.
Her concert engagements this season place particular emphasis on the symphonic repertoire. She sings Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with La Toscanini under Kent Nagano, returning to the work in Szeged in a programme that also includes Berg’s Seven Early Songs. Further highlights include Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and Michele Mariotti, Bach’s Magnificat at the Palau de la Música in Valencia with Rinaldo Alessandrini, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem with Ádám Fischer and the Danish Chamber Orchestra, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio at the Musikverein in Vienna with Concentus Musicus Wien.
Elsewhere during the season, Baráth performs Handel’s Messiah with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra; Fauré’s Requiem and Poulenc’s Gloria with the Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid under Jean-Claude Casadesus; and Mendelssohn’s Elijah with the Orquestra Simfònica del Gran Teatre del Liceu at the Palau de la Música Catalana. She also returns to Müpa Budapest with Hervé Niquet and Le Concert Spirituel, appears in Hasse’s Marc’Antonio e Cleopatra with Vespres d’Arnadí and Dani Espasa in Bilbao and Santander, opens the Stockholm Early Music Festival, and appears at Bayreuth Baroque alongside Andreas Scholl.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season included Haydn’s Die Jahreszeiten with Ádám Fischer and the Danish Chamber Orchestra, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, and a new production of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, conducted by Michele Mariotti and staged by Romeo Castellucci, followed by a European tour with Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d’Astrée. She also performed Mozart’s Requiem with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo under Kazuki Yamada, and in Salzburg with Christina Pluhar.
Baroque and Classical music has been central to Baráth’s career from the outset. Early milestones included Sesto in Handel’s Giulio Cesare under Alan Curtis and the title role in Cavalli’s Elena at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Her stage repertoire encompasses works by Handel, Cavalli and Haydn, alongside major Mozart roles including Ilia, Sifare, Donna Anna, Pamina and Aminta. In recent seasons, she has broadened her repertoire to embrace the music of the 19th and 20th centuries, including works by Mahler, Brahms, Fauré, Poulenc, Berg and Messiaen. Notable operatic appearances in this repertoire include L’Ange in Messiaen’s Saint François d’Assise under Sylvain Cambreling and Sœur Constance in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites conducted by Michele Mariotti.
Throughout her career, Baráth has appeared with many of the world’s leading period-instrument ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, Le Concert d’Astrée, Il Pomo d’Oro, Europa Galante, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Concentus Musicus Wien and Arcangelo. In the symphonic repertoire, she has also collaborated with orchestras including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National de Lyon, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo and Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra.
