The gala concert in honor of this year’s recipients of the BBVA Foundation’s international prizes, recognizing scientific and cultural excellence, will be held at Euskalduna Bilbao on Wednesday, June 18. A concert featuring Akiko Suwanai as soloist in Hosokawa Violin Concerto "Genesis" as Toshio Hosokawa has been this year's award-winning in Music and Opera category. Suwanai will perform this work, a regular in her repertoire, with the Euskadiko Orkestra and conducted by Fabian Panisello.
The Frontiers of Knowledge Awards, established in 2008, recognize and reward contributions of singular impact in science, art and the humanities, privileging those that significantly expand the frontiers of the known world, open up new fields, or emerge from the interaction of various disciplinary areas. An external indicator of the excellence in the Frontiers of Knowledge Awards is that 31 researchers who have won the BBVA Foundation awards have later received the Nobel Prize.
In the Music and Opera category this year’s winner has been composer Toshio Hosokawa for the extraordinary reach of his music, which tends a bridge between the Japanese tradition and contemporary Western aesthetics.
