Diego Martin-Etxebarria will conduct the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra on September 20th, marking his debut at the emblematic Teatro Colón in the Argentine capital. The concert, entirely dedicated to Maurice Ravel, celebrates the French composer's 150th anniversary.
The selected repertoire reflects the breadth of Ravel's orchestral language and his refined piano writing. The first part will include Ma mère l'Oye, the celebrated suite that transforms Charles Perrault's children's stories into a sonic universe, followed by the Piano Concerto in G Major. The second part of the program will feature two of his most emblematic works: La Valse and the celebrated Bolero, which has mesmerized the world with its gradual and obsessive build-up of rhythm.
“Conducting Ravel is always a challenge. From the audience's perspective, it's a very pleasant music to listen to, but to achieve that result, you have to be very precise. It's like a Swiss watch: many small parts that must fit together perfectly on the back for a seemingly simple result on the front,” notes Martin-Etxebarria.
After his time in Argentina, the maestro returns to Spain to take to the podium of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) during La Mercè festivities on September 27.
