Chilean bass-baritone Ricardo Seguel has earned acclaim for his versatility, warm timbre and charismatic stage presence. A graduate of the Teatro Municipal de Santiago’s young artist programme, he has appeared at major international houses including Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Teatro Colón (Buenos Aires), ABAO Bilbao Opera, Ópera de Oviedo, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía (Valencia), Teatro São Carlos (Lisbon), Teatro de la Maestranza (Seville), Teatro Argentino de La Plata, and the Rossini Festival in Wildbad, where he recorded Matilde di Shabran and L’accademia di musica for Naxos. He also recorded L’italiana in Algeri at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, further establishing his reputation in the Rossini repertoire.
Equally compelling in comic and serious repertoire, his roles include Leporello (Don Giovanni), Figaro (Le nozze di Figaro), Don Bartolo and Don Basilio (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Mustafà (L’italiana in Algeri), Selim (Il turco in Italia), Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Dulcamara (L’elisir d’amore), and Don Pasquale have been praised for their vitality and charm.
He has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Evelino Pidò, Michele Mariotti, Ottavio Dantone, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, Iván López-Reynoso, Yves Abel and Jordi Bernàcer, and with renowned stage directors including Emilio Sagi, Mariame Clément, Marcelo Lombardero, Joan Font, Nicola Berloffa, Joan Anton Rechi and Guy Joosten.
