21st October 2025

Luis Toro Araya has been awarded with the second prize in the prestigious German Conducting Award 2025.

The German Conducting Award (GCA) is an international competition for young conductors organised by the German Music Council (Deutscher Musikrat) in partnership with the Cologne Philharmonic Concert Hall, the Cologne Opera, the Gürzenich Orchestra of Cologne, and the WDR Symphonic Orchestra.

In the same year, Toro Araya began his tenure as Chief Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Concepción (Chile). He has been re-invited to conduct the Spanish National Orchestra, and in recent seasons he has made debuts with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, the Dresdner Philharmonie, and the Spanish Radio and Television Symphony Orchestra, among others. He was a Dudamel Fellow in the 2022/23 season, in which he conducted the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Congratulations!
