Lucía Iglesias makes her debut as Pamina in The Magic Flute at the Real Teatro de Retiro
18th March 2026

Lucía Iglesias will sing the role of Pamina in The Magic Flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in a new production by the Real Teatro del Retiro (Teatro Real), co-produced with the Teatro de la Maestranza and the Teatro Principal de Ourense. Performances will take place in Madrid from 21 to 29 March, and in Seville from 12 to 14 May.

The Galician soprano makes her debut in this demanding Mozartian role under the stage direction of Raquel Alarcón and the musical direction of Alexis Delgado, alongside a cast of seven singers. Three of them, like Iglesias herself, are alumni of the Teatro Real’s Crescendo programme: Pablo Púertolas (Tamino), Natividad Oval (Queen of the Night / Papagena), and Yasmín Forastiero (Lady / Genie). The cast is completed by Aslam Safla (Papageno), Adrián Saiz (Sarastro) and Yasel Illarramendi (Monostatos).

In Lucía Iglesias’s own words, “Pamina is a character full of strength and sensitivity, with a profound dramatic depth and exquisite melodies that anticipate Romantic sonorities. It is, without doubt, one of the most demanding and complete roles in the Mozartian repertoire.”

Following her performances as Pamina in Madrid and Seville, Lucía Iglesias is preparing for her upcoming Latin American debut. She will travel there at the end of May to sing the title role of Venus in La púrpura de la rosa by Tomás de Torrejón y Velasco, to be performed at the Teatro Municipal de Lima. The 2025/26 season has also taken her to various stages across Spain and the United States, including her recent debut at ABAO Bilbao Ópera as Sophie in Werther by Jules Massenet, as well as a series of recitals in New York in collaboration with the Teatro Real, as part of the theatre’s annual gala in the city.
