Born in Valencia, Javier Huerta Gimeno has developed a distinguished career as a conductor following an important period as a cellist, notably serving as principal cello of the Staatskapelle Weimar from 2018 to 2024.
In recent years, he has conducted orchestras across Spain and Europe, including the Staatskapelle Weimar, Jena Philharmonie, Philharmonische Orchester des Landestheaters Coburg, Hofer Symphoniker, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, as well as leading Spanish ensembles such as the Euskadiko Orkestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and Orquesta de Extremadura.
Highlights of the 2025/26 season include debut performances with the Orquesta Sinfónica y Coro Radio Televisión Española, Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla, Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife, Orquesta de Córdoba and Oviedo Filarmonía, further consolidating his growing presence on the Spanish music scene.
In the operatic field, he has been involved in productions such as The Flying Dutchman, Così fan tutte, Don Giovanni and La bohème, and has collaborated as assistant conductor on major projects including In Vain by Georg Friedrich Haas and Bluebeard’s Castle by Béla Bartók.
Awarded Second Prize at the Juventudes Musicales de España Conducting Competition in 2025, he was a student of the Zubin Mehta Chair of Orchestral Conducting at the Reina Sofía School of Music, where he was recognized as the most outstanding student.
