Julia Cruz leads Oviedo Filarmonía on New Year's Concerts
24th December 2025
Julia Cruz will conduct Oviedo's traditional New Year's concerts on January 1st and 2nd, 2026, at the Campoamor Theater, leading the Oviedo Filarmonía.
The Oviedo Municipal Culture Foundation has highlighted that the Valencian conductor, born in 1996, will be the first woman to conduct these concerts.
The first part of the program will focus on the Viennese tradition with a repertoire that pays homage to the Strauss dynasty, including works by three of its members: Johann Strauss I, and his sons Johann Strauss II and Josef Strauss. The second part, however, will offer a mosaic of European symphonic music and zarzuela, with pieces from the French repertoire by Bizet and Chabrier, a polonaise by Chaikovski, and a carefully curated selection of preludes and interludes by great masters of zarzuela such as Chueca, Chapí, Soutullo y Vert, and Giménez.
Julia Cruz stated: New Year's concerts have something special: a unique energy, a genuine and unrepeatable enthusiasm. That's why I'm so excited to start 2026 by reuniting with the Oviedo Filarmonía—I can't think of better partners to kick off the year—and in such an iconic theater as the Campoamor.
