Giancarlo Guerrero begins first season as Artistic Director for the Grant Park Music Festival
15th July 2025

Giancarlo Guerrero begins his first season as Artistic Director for the Grant Park Music Festival and Principal Director of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra, an ensemble formed in 1944 that brings together musicians from various professional orchestras and musical institutions across the United States. Each summer, the orchestra members gather at the Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, designed by architect Frank Gehry, for a ten-week intensive season.

For 90 years, the Grant Park Music Festival has been Chicago's summer musical sensation, proving that classical music, performed by a world-class orchestra and choir, can have a transformative impact on the city.

Recently, Guerrero spoke with CBS News Chicago about the challenges he has faced in his career and the defining moment that led him to become principal conductor of the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra in Chicago.

The conductor said he loves the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra's boldness, which is willing to perform a varied and eclectic repertoire. "It feels like an incredible gift from the universe to be back in Chicago now, at the Grant Park Music Festival," Guerrero said.
